Phil, you hit the nail on the head for me. I went to Mars Hill when I was in Seattle for DTS, and you are right. It’s not necessarily about Mark Driscoll, but about the intimacy you feel in the church. I come from a VERY small church in comparison and have always loved the feeling of intimacy and of family. Mars Hill was the first “big church” I had ever attended and was pleased to find that I still felt part of a family. Isn’t that what church is? I think you have made a good point because, while I like Mark Driscoll, he’s not perfect, yet the fact that the church’s exsistence isn’t riding on his preaching means that Mars Hill can weather the mistakes, realize he’s human too, and move on and grow together as a family.
you already know how i feel about mark driscoll so i’ll spare you the comments, however, this comment it to say that i like the “relevent pew” website and i’ve linked to it from my blog.
cheers.
