I was reading the book Causewired today as I was thinking about what to post for tonights Justice Friday post. I am finding more and more people who are using web 2.0 to bring awareness to issues that they care about. Web 2.0 refers to a perceived second generation of web development and design, that facilitates communication, secure information sharing, interoperability, and collaboration on the World Wide Web. Web 2.0 concepts have led to the development and evolution of web-based communities, hosted services, and applications; such as social-networking sites, video-sharing sites, wikis, blogs, and folksonomies- Wikipedia.

People have and are starting more and more to bring change to issues using apps like Causes on Facebook and even more recently Twitter.  Facebook launched their Causes app. in 2007 and within a year had 11 million users on it.  Some of the causes were reaserching breast cancer and bringing an end to the genocide in Darfur. This is a new way to combat and bring awareness to justice focussed issues.

Have you joined a cause on Facebook? If so which one? Have you started any causes on Facebook and if so how has the response been? I want to use web 2.0 more to bring awareness to issues of injustice. I believe that the more people know what is going on the better chances of seing change happen.

In closing, I am not an Oprah Winfrey fan, not in the least, but today she was talking about Twitter and has a talk with Ashton Kutcher, who now has over 1 million followers. He talked a bit about how Twitter and social networking can and is used for good. You have to root through some of the Oprah stuff, but you will get there.
