When was the last time you had a sense of excitement or anticipation in your walk with Jesus? This morning I was reading in 1 Samuel 9 where the prophet anoints Saul, a simple donkey wrangler to be king over Israel. Now Saul didn’t go from donkey wrangler up to a place of prominence over a long period of time, it was like over a couple of days. Here is how it went down.

And Samuel told Saul “when you leave me today you will meet two men near Rachel’s tomb at Zelzah on the border of Benjamin. They will say to you…..Then you will go on from there until you reach the great tree of Tabor. Three men going up to God at Bethel will meet you there. One will be carrying three young goats, another three loaves of bread, and another a skin of wine. They will greet you and offer you two loaves of bread, which you will accept from them.

After that you will go to Gibeah of God, where there is a Philistine outpost. As you approach the town, you will meet a procession of prophets coming down from the high place with lyres, tambourines, flutes and harps being played before them and they will be prophesying. The Spirit of the LORD will come upon you in power and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever you hand finds to do, for God is with you.”

As I was reading this I wondered, what was Saul thinking? I mean he probably left that place and was overcome with excitement, anticipation and fear. I am sure he was constantly looking to see the people that Samuel was talking about. “Is that them? What if I don’t see them? What if they don’t see me? What did the prophet mean when he said “I will be changed into a different person?” Saul walked that day with his eyes open anticipating great things from the LORD.

I want that for me. I want to hear God speak to me about my life and walk into it with eyes open and expectations high. I believe that this is the call of all of us who have chosen to follow Jesus. There will be things that happen in our lives and if we walk into them we will be changed into a different person. Now it may not happen over the period of one day, it may take weeks, months or even years, but it will happen. It say’s in the bible that if anyone is in Christ Jesus he/she is a new creation. The old has gone and the new has come (2 Cor. 5?17).

Today, lets walk with eyes wide open and expectations high. I want and need to walk into the things that Jesus has for me and I am sure as a follower of Jesus you do too. I think about the excitement that Saul had each time one of the prophecies of Samuel came true on his way home that day. And be the end of the day he was changed forever. That is not only for Saul, that is for us today. Lets start walking.
