Today on the way to lunch I passed a little girl and a crying baby laying in an excavation site on the side of the road. The girl was curled up and asleep and the baby was crying in a hammock. I asked my driver to turn around so that I could take a picture. I struggled with the fact that I wanted to take a picture of this heart breaking site, but I felt like I needed to.
As I passed these kids my heart started to break, as it always does in the city of Phnom Penh. We come here to learn about injustice, hear from people who are serving the poor and be challenged in our response. But what could I do in this situation? Then I felt this from the Lord.
“I lay down with the poor as they sleep in the dirt and the hard places. I hold their hand and intercede for them.” God is with the poor, this I know.
His prayer is most likely that people (locals) would rise up and love the poor, giving them opportunity and hope. This is my prayer for us as a team. That we would hear Gods voice, be broken for the hurting of the world and go home and serve our local communities, or alter the course of our lives and serve among the poorest of the poor in the world.
